An Astonishing Journey of Self-Discovery
Middle Path Movement started with a journey of Self Discovery. I never planned to be a yoga teacher and certainly never envisioned holding space for others to heal, but as a child I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease that meant it was either the Western Medicine route which called for a cocktail of harsh chemicals weekly hospital visits, surgery and needles or find my own way to Self-Healing.
I tried it all in the UK, nutritionists, naturopaths, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy – and whilst they all helped, something was missing, or perhaps there was too much noise – too much advice, too many extremes, too much of everything apart from silence.
At 19 I decided that my university degree was no longer for me and I followed my calling to travel to Thailand, I started off there as an English teacher. This is where my journey of learning alternative therapies from the source began. It wasn’t long before a group of monks came on my path. They saw that I was struggling with swollen knees and they offered to help. I was humbled, shocked, confused, excited and scared all at once – I was only young and had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I accepted their help. They invited me that evening to a room, where one of my Thai colleagues lived (in fact all of my colleagues were Thai and we lived in a very basic wooden building together – with bucket showers, squat toilets and a basic square room each with a mattress)
I arrived that evening with the room full of all the Thai staff sitting on the floor, and the monks all sat around the edge of the room either kneeling or the older monks on small stools. They beckoned for me to sit in the middle of the room, and so I did.
One of the monks tied some string around the crown of my head, this string then looped around each of the monks’ praying hands. And so, the chanting began. At least 3 hours of it. I had no idea what was going on but I do know, despite the challenge of sitting still for so long with the sore joints that I once had, I must have gone into some sort of meditative trance because the experience was incredible. Something shifted in me. A new awareness, a deeper understanding, a movement that meant that I finally understood that my body was destined to heal – despite what experts had said – the answer was in understanding my mind.
This was the beginning of my journey of Self Discovery. My 6-month trip turned into 10 years of travelling to different countries, encountering some of the most incredible people – Monks, Shamans, Tribes, Empresses. My body healed. A condition that western doctor’s thought would worsen with age, disappeared and the only memory of it became a teacher that guided me to teach, share and listen to others stories.
Somewhere along the way, I found The Middle Path, I found a path that balanced all the cultures that I had had the honour of encountering, so that I could find my inner peace.
As I got better and my gratitude grew, I realised that my passion, my love, my purpose was/is to share my story and to build experiences for others to find their inner master and heal themselves, grow themselves and shine.
Middle Path Movement and Egolution were born with this intention and as the school grows, the philosophy expands and I find more beautiful souls each year that love to share their stories too.
It is an absolute honour to do what I do and I don’t go a day without giving thanks for the experiences, the expanding tribe and the love that we all have to share.
