Find your Inner Warrior Goddess

A prayer to Durga

What do tsunamis, snowstorms, earthquakes, and wildfires have in common?

Power.

Raw, fierce, and uncontrollable. None of your actions could stop it.

This same energy can be found in a mother protecting her kid or in an activist standing up for its rights. This bravery and the inner force that we all have in us is represented in Hinduism by the goddess Durga.

Durga is a beautiful woman traditionally represented with 8-10 arms, each of them holding an object. She has weapons and a mace, representing strength, courage, and authority but also a rosary and a lotus flower, symbolizing prayers and transformation. She is riding a lion, controlling its energy. She is a strong warrior who fights fiercely but also a mother who will protect you at any cost.

You may want to invoke Durga when you need the motivation to start a project, confidence to speak up, or clarity to see beyond your ego. But Durga isn’t easily accessed. To reveal her power, you’ll have to be prepared, ask for her help and most importantly accept the change she will bring. She is here if you need her but you have to do your part and be active in this transformation.

To invoke Durga, sit in a comfortable position, and close your eyes. You may wish to have your hands in a yoni Mudra, creating a triangle with your thumbs and indexes with your fingers facing down. Keep your hands on your Sacral Chakra, your energy center representing creativity, sexuality, passion. Visualize Durga, proudly sitting on her lion. Feel its roaring energy in your belly.

Repeat the mantra “Om Dum Durgayei Namaha” 9, 27, 54 or 108 times, translating by “ I bow to you, goddess Durga”. Remember to open your heart and stay humble

When you feel her presence ask yourself:
“What do I need to let go of?”
“What is preventing me from moving on?”
“What is the battle I need to focus on?”

When you are done reflecting, bring your hands to your heart in a prayer position.
Bow to Durga, yourself, and the sacred practice yoga.

The problem with free yoga

And then I thought there is something really wrong with our ‘everything needs to be for free culture’, which I started to observe more and more. And this is not about the people who really do not have the money to afford things, it is about this culture that we can afford something, but we do not want to spend money on it.

Practice Vulnerability

I am sitting on the floor. My back towards the bed. My body curled into a little ball. Tears are running down my cheeks. I am sobbing. My boyfriend comes in to comfort me. He says: “this is a great teaching. Learn to live with the chaos around you. You are a great teacher, and now you need to be your own teacher.”

Do you speak the truth?

But it may not be as simple, as not lying someone in their face. It is to strive to avoid even the smallest misimpression in the mind of the person listening to you. So their picture in their mind needs to match the picture we have in our mind about what we speak. Any difference created on purpose is lying.

Julia is one of the most precious yoga teacher I’ve ever had! I would recommend all her practices with a special mention for her yoga nidra. I got so relaxed and so deeply calmed down by her voice during each session, she helped me letting it go towards either a tight sleep or for restful nap. Very powerful experience and human being. thank you Warrior Princess!
